摘要: Abstract In the Amazon, turtle hunting is more than simply a method of obtaining meat, it way life and part local culture. To reduce illegal catch Amazonian freshwater turtles knowledge about ecology species needed to establish conservation management strategies. The exploited have high reproductive potential but large percentage hatchlings are consumed by predators (mainly fishers) if left without proper management. It suggested that proportion should be collected on nesting beaches subsequently raised in semi-natural conditions for later releases into lakes. This done at regular intervals produce commercial harvest after 8 years. Such strategy would provide an economic incentive protect maintain wild populations as sources hatchlings.
