摘要: Introduction In this chapter, the generation mechanisms for mesoscale waves, which include pure gravity inertial oscillations, and inertia-gravity will be discussed. As mentioned in Chapter 3, due to their dispersive nature, most waves generated by a variety of atmospheric sources tend lose coherence after some time. Therefore, our discussion wave maintenance focus on such as those defined literature long-lasting with perturbation pressure amplitudes 0.2–7.0 hPa, horizontal wavelengths 50–500 km, periods 1–4 h (Uccellini Koch 1987). they propagate away from source region, atmosphere may also initiate severe convective storms, generate wind gusts, create turbulence leading aviation safety problems. The surface associated large-amplitude even larger than that typically midlatitude cyclogenesis often creates confusion weather forecasts (Fig. 4.1). This type event might incorrectly interpreted onset secondary along coastal front, case occurred February 27, 1984, pointed out Bosart Seimon (1988). Occasionally, km last several hours distances hundred kilometers more 1000 region. behave like an isolated elevation or depression, localized packet.
