摘要: The atelines (Ateles, Lagothrix, Brachyteles, and Alouatta) are distinguished among the New World primates by presence of a prehensile tail, equipped with naked volar pad covered dermatoglyphic friction skin (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1829). This adaptation plays significant role in definition feeding locomotor niche (Rosenberger Strier, 1989). Atelines exhibit modifications sacral caudal vertebrae (Ankel, 1972; German, 1982), musculature (Lemelin, 1995) cerebral cortical representation tail (Falk, 1980). capuchin monkey (Cebus) also displays abilities its relatively shorter but lacks other distinctive morphologies present atelines, suggesting tails evolved parallel Cebus (Rosenberger, 1983; Lemelin, 1995).
