摘要: The coastal Chukchi Sea has a particularly productive landfast ice ecosystem but is currently lacking direct measurements of nitrogen (N) cycling within the ice. Using stable isotopic tracers, we measured uptake and regeneration ammonium nitrate, along with primary secondary production at three depths sea in near Barrow, Alaska, during April 2011 January 2012. These are first data N rates Arctic spring winter. Both inorganic organic nutrient concentrations were generally higher than water column, exception phosphate, which may have limited certain sections Primary all was column April, below detection limit January. Bacterial bottom (0–10 cm from ice–water interface) consistently across seasons. Absolute highest absolute nitrate depth horizons except upper (30–40 While nitrification lower. Regeneration far exceeded magnitude highlights importance biological community to region.
