A systematic review on informal waste picking: Occupational hazards and health outcomes.

摘要: Informal waste picking is a common way for people to earn an income, especially in low-income countries; unfortunately, there are various occupational hazards and health outcomes associated with picking. This study focused on comprehensively identifying exploring informal A systematic review of available relevant peer-reviewed literature was completed exhaustively analyze the full scope these picking; 58 papers were included. The results from this provided insight information related most negative pickers outlined literature. reported physical (77.6%), social (70.7%), biological (65.5%), chemical safety (53.4%), ergonomic (34.5%) mechanic (25.9%). Health appeared include epidermal (50.0%), communicable disease (46.6%), musculoskeletal (44.8%), respiratory (41.4%), non-communicable diseases (39.7%), physiological (34.5%), gastrointestinal (31.0%) waterborne (17.2%). It clear that moving forward, additional research needed help create change affected population, well finding effective solutions mitigate outcomes. These can be mitigated by simple, control measures, like providing equipment, reducing outside (e.g., less time sun, breaks, etc.), placing barriers between covered stations, flat ground, etc.) or more complex engineering, administrative work controls. Because breadth problems faced workers, correctly assess (e.g. use practitioners) across ensure accurate data answer far-reaching problem.
