摘要: Alfred Russel Wallace, whose contributions to science we celebrate this year, the 100th anniversary of his death, is probably best known for role in articulating evolution by natural selection with Charles Darwin mid-19th century. But important as that was, it was unique field-oriented perspective gave birth a whole new way looking at world. In two-volume The Geographical Distribution Animals ( 1 ), Wallace broke ground setting patterns distribution an evolutionary context and insisting on necessity comparative data across all life (see first figure).
