摘要: Many students struggle on standardized tests simply because they do not have the reading skills or vocabulary knowledge base to understand what a test question is asking them do. This particularly true with mathematics testing. study examines instruction and its connection improving mathematical literacy performance. A strategy was implemented that required connect terms, common everyday language, formalized definitions, symbols. After being exposed this new strategy, were given assessments tested their of ability perform test. The results provided important insight into how effective traditional memorization techniques for learning versus technique forces make connections between formal Document Type Thesis Degree Name MS in Mathematics, Science, Technology Education First Supervisor Diane Barrett thesis available at Fisher Digital Publications: http://fisherpub.sjfc.edu/mathcs_etd_masters/90 Enhancing Mathematical Literacy
