摘要: Abstract The diversity of an ecological community is defined in terms the average species rarity that using both dichotomous- and rank-type measures. Common indices profiles are developed this definition concept intrinsic ordering presented. use these measures illustrated case studies involving plant communities two distinct forested ecosystems southeastern northeastern United States. In studies, objective comparative assessment changes over time between treatments. Diversity further utilized nonlinear mathematical programming models for uneven-aged stand management. present strategies maximization maintenance structural within stands. Finally, a principal components regression technique presented which facilitates prediction diversity; user need only be able to classify individual into one five life-forms — significantly reducing taxonomic skills required assessment.
