摘要: The basidomycete order Ustilaginales is an important group of plant pathogens often referred to as the smut fungi. Ustilago maydis (DC) Cda., causal agent common corn (Zea mays, (1)), offers attractive system in which gain understanding host-parasite interactions at molecular level. Growing a haploid yeast on defined media, U. amenable both classical genetic analysis (2–4) and manipulation (5,6). These studies can be extended include with genetically well-characterized host, Z mays. Although this pathogen no longer imposes production constraint North America, where resistant hybrid grown, it continues problem third world countries susceptible varieties are still cultivated. Furthermore mechanisms pathogenesis may yield insight into other more economically difficult study fungal diseases. Here we give brief description disease, discuss approaches its study, present update mating type control iron uptake these being productively applied, address areas that plant/fungus interaction.
