摘要: It has been known for several years that the abuse of drugs such as alcohol (ethanol) and cocaine disrupt hepatic structure functions. The mechanisms these drug-induced hepatotoxicities are nowthoughtto be intricately related to changes in functional activitiesof inherent enzyme antioxidant systems (e.g., superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidases, selenoenzymes). These dietary status1, 4of tocopherols, ascorbate, beta-carotene protect biological system against oxidative damage.5, 8 ability cells maintain their viability integrity insults from xenobiotics, including commonly used abuse, is part dependent on defense mechanisms. role xenobiotics generating free radicals conversion reactive electrophiles species during intracellular metabolic detoxification process cellular damage fully elucidated.9, 10 generation liver reviewed another chapter this volume.
