摘要: Chronic illness frequently comes to men suddenly with immediate intensity, severity, and uncertainty. Because contract more serious life-threatening chronic illnesses than women, experiencing causes different identity dilemmas. This paper explores men's dilemmas by studying how experience looking at assumptions about masculinity affected their identity. The four major processes: (1) awakening death after a lifethreatening crisis, (2) accommodating uncertainty as realize that the crisis has lasting consequences for lives, (3) defining disability (4) preserving self maintain sense of coherence while loss change. data are derived from forty in-depth formal interviews twenty men, informal these an extensive collection published unpublished personal accounts. were analyzed through strategies grounded theory.
