摘要: Abstract Forward osmosis has been proven to be effective for the removal of several inorganic (neutral or ionic) and organic contaminants from aqueous solution. We studied rejection behavior As(V) in presence co-occurring solutes (nitrate, fluoride, sulfate, phosphate, silicate, bicarbonate humic acid). Silicate shows no significant effect whereas phosphate lowers substantially (from 95.5 80.5%). The increase co-existing follows sequence acid > bicarbonate > nitrate > fluoride > sulfate > phosphate. Donnan exclusion, size diffusion are factors that may explain behavior. Additionally, fouling layer formed by acid pH due helps enhance efficiency. In contrast, concentration polarization was observed insignificant as water flux low. It concluded forward can successfully remove arsenic groundwater containing various coexisting competing therefore considered an important alternative practical application.
