摘要: The domestic cat, currently the most frequent of companion animals, has enjoyed a medical surveillance, as nonprimate species, second only to dog. With over 200 hereditary disease pathologies reported in clinical and physiological study these feline diseases provides strong comparative medicine opportunity for prevention, diagnostics, treatment studies laboratory setting. Causal mutations have been characterized 19 felid genes, with largest representation from lysosomal storage enzyme disorders. Corrective therapeutic strategies several disorders proposed examined including replacement, heterologous bone marrow transplantation, substrate reduction therapy. Genomics tools developed recent completion 2-fold whole genome sequence cat browser, radiation hybrid map 1793 integrated coding microsatellite loci, 5-cM genetic linkage map, arrayed BAC libraries, flow sorted chromosomes, are providing resources that being utilized mapping characterization genes interest. A report novel causative gene spinal muscular atrophy marked first identification purely positional reasoning. development genomic application complementary other is emerging promising resource phenotypically defined variation biomedical significance. Additionally, provided useful models infectious disease. These include leukemia sarcoma virus, coronavirus, Type C retroviruses interact cellular oncogenes induce leukemia, lymphoma, sarcoma.
