摘要: Background The current standard diagnostic procedure for basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is histologic examination after invasive biopsy. Reflectance-mode confocal microscopy (RCM) offers noninvasive high-resolution imaging of human skin in vivo. Objective objective this study was to explore the sensitivity and specificity RCM diagnosis BCC. Methods This a retrospective images from 4 institutions 152 lesions representing variety benign malignant diagnoses. These were examined clinically, with biopsies recorded all 83 BCCs detected. Based on previous study, set 5 histologically correlated criteria diagnosing BCC established, eg, presence elongated monomorphic nuclei. Blinded analysis carried out by single novice reviewer determine these accuracy combining probability based clinical photographs predicted also evaluated. Results two or more 100% sensitive BCC, present 95.7% 82.9%. results found have little variability across sites subtypes. combination photography-based predictions significantly improved Conclusion specific tool
