摘要: To stem the spread of HIV among intravenous drug users, and between them their sexual partners offspring, Vancouver initiated a multifaceted "ways means" needle exchange program in March 1989. As end October, over 2,600 users have registered. The rate has increased steadily, reaching peak 98% November. Increases also been noted number regular requests for referral to addition, medical, social HIV-related services. Outreach services, especially using van, expanded availability. Success terms clientele response is accredited primarily nonjudgemental, nonintrusive approach. main problems lack addiction treatment financial personnel constraints created by large enrollment, difficulties with Federal/Provincial funding.
