摘要: BACKGROUND: The frequency of hypospadias is not uniform worldwide. Several countries have reported an increase in its at birth. Although a better ascertainment the minor forms has been considered as explanation, potential effect environmental endocrine disrupters also proposed. We studied secular trend Spain over past 22 years, separating and major forms. METHODS: used data from Spanish Collaborative Study Congenital Malformations (ECEMC) registry, analyzing two different periods: 1978 to 1995, 1996 2002. To evaluate step between periods, we applied parametric Student's t-test, nonparametric Mann-Whitney rank test. RESULTS: birth isolated total was quite stable 1995. In 1996, it decreased dramatically step, essentially due cases with hypospadias. geographical distribution by 17 regions showed that occurred nearly all them. CONCLUSIONS: It difficult consider observed decrease could be less accurate reporting these 87 hospitals same year without any previous physician agreement. This rather suggests change some product or exposure affecting whole country. think cannot attributable lower voluntary interruption gestation.
