摘要: Many techniques have been developed for the treatment of hydrocephalus since Kausch in 1908 (1) inserted a rubber tube from lateral ventricle brain into peritoneal cavity. Most these employ tubes rubber, plastic material, or metal to drain cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) CSF space other body cavities vein. shunts require mechanical valves material both interposed along course conductive tubing promote unidirectional flow SCF and prevent reflux blood fluids. In consequence large number complications are common, such as disconnection blocking tubing, valve insufficiency, bacterial colonization outgrowing length catheter (2). It has also shown that rapid decompression following ventriculoatrial ventriculo-peritoneal may result an epidural subdural haematoma (30). Furthermore, removal cause ventricular collapse with draining cerebral shunt trapped between abutting walls high risk occlusion (4). 1963 Scarff (2) found incidence severe late was many times greater after most operations foreign than those where not introduced. All this indicates at present routine use far perfect, further research is required.
