Medication noncompliance and substance abuse among patients with schizophrenia.

摘要: Objective: The study examined the effect of medication noncompliance and substance abuse on symptoms schizophrenia. Met!wds: Short-term inpatients with a diagnosis schizophrenia were enrolled in longitudinal outcomes continued to receive standard care after discharge. At baseline six-month follow-up, Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) scores data subjects’ reported compliance, drug alcohol abuse, usual living arrangements, observed side effects obtained. number outpatient contacts during follow-up period was obtained from medical records. Relationships between dependent variables-medication BPRS scores-and independent variables analyzed using logistic linear regression models. Results: Medication significantly associated abuse. Subjects who abused substances, had no contact, noncompliant greater symptom severity than other groups. Conclusions: Substance is strongly among patients combination noncompliance, lack contact appears define particularly high-risk group. (Psychiatric Services
