摘要: SOME forty years ago a series of observations by Liebmann 1 disproved the opinion that all children are born deaf. This supposition had been generally accepted and was expressed authors such as J. Meyer. 2 Others, among them Alexander, 3 were newborn infants certain hearing capacity. The ability in new is very deficient. external auditory meatus not permeable, spaces middle ear nearly filled with gelatinous tissue. surface tympanic membrane uneven itself thick.... Sound conduction is, therefore, considerably interfered both ear. Such an impediment occurring adult from disease conditions would diminish acuity, reducing it to perhaps one or two meters ordinary conversation this distance will probably represent acuity newborn.... 4 Motor reaction
