摘要: Background A wide range of professionals including psychiatrists, psychologists, general physicians, faith-healers and religious healers cater to the needs mentally ill patients. Psychiatric facilities are available at hospitals, office based practice mental hospitals. Psychiatrists preferred least due stigma. The present work reports on treatment options used by a group psychiatric patients before visiting hospital. Aim To study help seeking behaviour Method Patients attending outpatient service hospital were asked specifically about various utilized them coming reasons thereof. Results services was subjects varying from professional care faith healers. Trust, easy availability accessibility, recommendations significant others belief in supernatural causation illness important for choosing particular facility. Thus sociocultural factors appeared influence behaviour. Conclusion substantial number suffering severe disorders seek non-professional care. There is need studies community assess associated with it.
