摘要: Sexually dimorphic characters in males are expected to display substantial variation if they be used as cues for choice of mates by females. This study examined the informative value morphological and behavioral traits that were sexually dimorphic, characteristics their territories through an examination variance exhibited male pronghorns ( Antilocapra americana ). Cheek-patch areas lengths horns displayed higher levels than other characters. Although cheek-patch more variable, asymmetry may provide reliable information on quality males. areas, horns, frequency social behaviors differed among males, whereas size vegetative cover. Individual between right left cheek patches, frequencies courtship changed during rut. Both timing bout-lengths negatively associated with those maintenance behaviors, suggesting these two classes activities mutually exclusive. Sizes individual tended greater summer cover grasses varied over years. The expression territoriality is variable both within populations, represent a frequency-dependent mating strategy Further whether correlated reproductive success necessary before questions females can addressed.
