摘要: We report 25,563 radial velocity measurements for 1359 single-lined stars in the Carney-Latham sample of 1464 selected high proper motion. For 171 these, we present spectroscopic orbital solutions. find no obvious difference between binary characteristics halo and disk populations. The observed frequency is same, period distributions are consistent with hypothesis that two sets binaries were drawn from same parent population. This suggests metallicity general, radiative opacities particular, have little influence over fragmentation process leads to short-period binaries. All periods shorter than 10 days nearly circular orbits, while longer 20 exhibit a wide range eccentricities median value 0.37. metal-poor high-velocity our sample, transition eccentric orbits appears occur at about days, supporting conclusion tidal circularization on main sequence important oldest Galaxy.
