摘要: Background Subcutaneous ports are commonly used for vascular access in patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Objectives To determine the incidence of catheter-related infection and to assess efficacy catheter salvage subcutaneous ports. Methods We retrospectively reviewed 300 single-lumen chest inserted by interventional radiologists 294 between December 1, 1995, November 15, 1997, at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio. The number days that remained situ, rate, treatment, outcome were determined. Results Two hundred ninety-four had a total 79 748 catheter-days. Vascular chemotherapy was indication 95% placed. Seventeen catheters (5.7%) developed 20 episodes noninfectious complications resulting removal 6 infections (2.1/10 000 catheter-days) including 10 bacteremia (1.2/10 000 catheter-days). most common organism isolated wasStaphylococcus aureus. A 15 17 infected removed. Salvage attempted whom 4 eventually removed due recurrent (2 patients) persistent local patients). One septic arthritis. There no associated salvage. Conclusions have low complication rates but remain leading cause loss. Antibiotic therapy without is unlikely eradicate bacteremia.
