摘要: Abstract A detailed description of the physical, chemical and biological structure Cyprus eddy is given from cruises carried out in February, May, September November 1989. The data support suggestion ( Brenner et al., Dynamics Atmospheres Oceans , 15 457–477, 1991) that this forms essentially situ by injection 250–300 m Levantine Intermediate Water into upper layers water column. nitrate vs temperature profile characteristic longitude not one transported rapidly farther west. silicate depth at boundary can be superimposed on core if its displaced downward 250 m. maximum also relative to boundary. There was no evidence a different origin based nutrient profiles Sigma-T surfaces. These suggest similar many respects mid-ocean eddy, ring. enhanced productivity winter. This bloom occurred simultaneously with deep (> 350 m) mixing column, possibly part as result algal growth unusually low light levels. suggesting upwelling nutrients weak observed rings more related strong front or entrainment shelf waters. It cautioned several important physical features would have been seen using satellite imagery.
