摘要: The aim of this book is to give a unified and critical account the fundamental aspects liquid crystals. Preference given discussing assumptions made in developing theories analyzing experimental data rather than attempting compile all latest results. has four parts. Part I quite descriptive character gives general overview various crystalline phases. II deals with macroscopic continuum theory crystals systematic development from tensorial point view thus emphasizing relevant symmetries. III concentrates on experiments that provide microscopic information orientational behaviour molecules. Finally IV discusses phases their attendant phase transitions both Landau molecular-statistical view. Simplifying models as far possible, it critically examines merits approach.
