摘要: Abstract Aims To investigate the effects of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor on tissue damage and fibrosis obstructed ureters, 80 rats were studied. Main methods Atorvastatin, a HMG-CoA inhibitor, was administered to 40 at dose 20 mg/kg per day 1 day before unilateral ligation ureters every thereafter. The other served as controls. Eight from each group sacrificed for examination days 7, 14, 21, 28 42 after ligation, respectively. expressions transforming growth factor-β 1 (TGF-β ), Interleukine-1β (IL-1β), Interleukine-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), proliferation cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), apoptotic cells in ureteric smooth muscle examined. Key findings Hydroureter layer became progressively aggravated ligated atorvastatin-treated control group. severities hydroureter treated significantly less than atorvastatin administration also decreased expression TGF-β , IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, PCNA labeling index Significance We concluded that might ameliorate least partially, via inhibition by diminishing pro-inflammatory cytokines.
