摘要: Background Although global brain structure is highly heritable, there still variability in the magnitude of genetic influences on size specific regions. Yet, little known about patterning those influences, i.e., whether same genes influence throughout or are regionally sets genes. Methods We mapped heritability cortical thickness using three-dimensional structural magnetic resonance imaging 404 middle-aged male twins. To assess amount overlap between regions, we then correlations three selected seed points and all other comprising continuous surface. Results There was considerable regional thickness. The primary visual (V1) point had strong with posterior sensory motor areas. anterior temporal frontal regions but not V1. middle inferior parietal Conclusions These results provide evidence patterns rather than a single, factor. largely consistent division association cortex, as well broadly defined gene expression, neuroanatomical connectivity, maturation trajectories, no single explanation appears to be sufficient. do conform traditionally boundaries. This approach can serve step toward identifying novel phenotypes for studies psychiatric disorders normal pathological cognitive aging.
