摘要: Abstract Early evolved microbial communities characterized the initial biological invasion of Precambrian continental landscapes. In modern arid settings, mats and soil crusts are well-developed stabilize sediment. The Paleoproterozoic Makgabeng Formation in South Africa is one oldest best preserved, dryland systems on Earth. Six types mat-related structures now recognized within these depositional systems. This paper presents three newly discovered that include tufted mat, crusts, gas-escape features, addition to previously documented roll up sand cracks, wrinkled features. These discoveries demonstrate were well-established inhabited diverse settings by 2.0 Ga, approximately 200 million years after onset Great Oxidation Event.
