When the judgment mate hing values on perceptual continua, observer tends, average, to constrict range his adjustments whichever variable is placed under control. adjusts each in turn, regression lines are produced. This effect presumably occurs whenever results judgments yield less than perfect correlation. Illustrative examples given for loudness, vibration, brightness, and duration.
