摘要: Objectives. After two outbreaks of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) occurred in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, from March–June 2003, we reviewed the unexpected role and responsibilities pharmacists during these crises, present strategies for better crisis preparedness. Methods Results. Pharmacists were actively involved battling SARS crises. conducting extensive literature searches evaluations, prepared administration dosing guidelines investigational drugs, ribavirin interferon alfacon-1, that being used to treat syndrome. They provided direct patient care under modified conditions. revised drug distribution procedures developed new ones meet more stringent infection-control standards. Collaborative teamwork with key stakeholders was important accomplishing tasks an efficient timely manner. Regular communication health staff took place internally externally. Education updated information crucial. Conclusion. can play a vital crises areas distribution, information, care. close are keys success. must be proactive take leadership assuming pharmacy-related responsibilities. By evaluating what worked didn't, develop future requiring pharmacy support.
