Spawning areas and larval distributions of anchovy Engraulis encrasicolus in relation to environmental conditions in the Gulf of Tunis (Central Mediterranean Sea)

摘要: Early life stages of anchovy were investigated in the Gulf Tunis by means four seasonal surveys carried out from summer 2002 to spring 2003. Anchovy eggs and larvae found all year round, but they much more abundant summer. In spring, main spawning area was located north Gulf, west southwest Zembra Island. summer, higher egg larva abundances also observed Island, secondary grounds detected vicinity mouths Rivers Majreda Meliane. No direct correlations between sea surface temperature (SST), salinity (SSS) chlorophyll a horizontal distribution observed. However, distributions seasons larval autumn significantly related depth. The temporal variation seems control intensity beginning be triggered increase SST.
