摘要: Abstract In the last 50 years, intensification of agricultural grassland management has led to over 97% all being ‘improved’ in UK. Despite an important habitat for birds Europe, both terms area and preference by several species conservation concern, impact on breeding wintering is poorly understood. This study compared characteristics bird diversity, winter, between improved unimproved lowland England comprising 44 fields (350 ha) 59 (290 ha) at 7 paired sites. Key differences were found types. These included, fields, a denser sward, less surface water, more dung flies with seeding grass. Species that are dependent soil invertebrates (particularly earthworms) be numerous grassland, whilst generalist insectivores such as corvids much grassland. Grassland improvement may have been one factor behind recent increases numbers some corvid
