摘要: Hypoparathyroidism is a rare endocrine disorder whose incidence and prevalence have not been well defined. This study aimed to 1) estimate the number of insured adult patients with hypoparathyroidism in United States 2) obtain physician assessment disease severity chronicity. Prevalence was estimated through calculation diagnoses large proprietary health plan claims database over 12-month period from October 2007 September 2008 projected US population. Incidence also calculated same by determining proportion total neck surgeries resulting either transient (≤6 months) or chronic (>6 hypoparathyroidism. A primary market research conducted assess determine percentage new nonsurgical data were entered into an epidemiologic model derive prevalence. The diagnosis-based approach 58,793 States. surgical-based yielded 117,342 relevant 8901 cases 12 months. Overall, 7.6% resulted (75% transient, 25% chronic). among included surgical be 58,625. survey found that 75% treated past months reported due surgery and, all thyroidectomies parathyroidectomies dissections performed year, 26% 5% progressed state. In conclusion, two claims-based methods similar estimates (~58,700). consistent those calculations confirmed burden imposed
