摘要: Coexistence theory (CT) in community ecology provides a functional perspective on how multiple competing species coexist. Here, I explore CT’s usefulness for understanding conflict and coexistence among human groups with diverse livelihood interests shared resources such as fisheries. add three concepts from social science research coexistence: adaptability, pluralism, equity apply this expanded theoretical framework to the case of salmon fisheries Alaska’s Cook Inlet, synthesizing catch records anthropological research. The analysis addresses issues inequity, who bears costs conservation measures, lack that people have come devalue their neighbors, decline resilience some sectors, all which undermine likelihood these continuing coexistence. discuss policy options addressing escalating region, improving management fishing temporary closures.
