摘要: Saliva plays a detrimental role in oral health and disease. The quality the quantity of saliva are determined by glands it is secreted from, sampling method, whether secretion stimulated or not (stimulated resting saliva). Mucin-rich lubricates tissues, lactoferrin, peroxidase, histatin, range other substances provide anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-mycotic properties. Symptoms related to xerostomia as Sjogren’s syndrome (SS) burning sensation mucosa tongue, impaired taste, dry lips, soreness ulcers, difficulties speaking chewing foods, wearing removable dentures. Clinically, sticky examination mirror may adhere buccal mucosa. In addition depapillation explosive development cavities (dental caries), fungal/yeast infections (oral candidiasis) mouth pharynx occur. An objective measure dryness can be achieved sialometry unstimulated and/or whole saliva. possibility using fluid for biomarkers its potential benefit SS patient diagnosis follow-up elaborated. Finally, current approaches relief prevention/treatment mouth-induced complications such dental caries candidiasis presented.
