Too Cold, Too Wet, Too Bright, or Just Right? Environmental Predictors of Snake Movement and Activity

摘要: Movement and activity patterns are fundamental to the basic ecology of any organism can be influenced by a variety environmental factors. For snakes, which notable for being secretive difficult study, influences on movement often obscure. Here, we investigate drivers terrestrial 23 snake species from temperate community in Atlantic Coastal Plain region South Carolina, USA. Activity was strongly seasonal, with primarily fossorial showing unimodal peaks summer, whereas several aquatic showed increased movements wetland both spring fall. After controlling seasonal activity, temperature precipitation had consistent effects movement, snakes increasing decreasing precipitation.
