摘要: Background Since the introduction of national notifiable diseases information system (SINAN) in Pernambuco State, Brazil, 1994, many problems have been encountered. The aim this study was to evaluate SINAN software, quality data input, transfer computerised from municipality state levels, human resources and other factors associated with health infrastructure (HIS). Methods A cross-sectional carried out state, North-eastern 2005. sample regions municipalities chosen. forms those were analysed flow notifications followed municipal level regional finally state. Professionals units, district, Hansen's Disease Control Programme (HDCP) Epidemiological Surveillance System (ESS) coordinators, secretaries managers selected interviewed. Results software is functioning up expectation. However, at all levels system, serious weaknesses not related found, varying lack (limited number staff development), (office space, computers, supplies, etc.) an absence effective coordination, management supervision HIS. Conclusions Lack reliable, complete timely information, especially widespread analysis use available planning services main found. Many areas need urgent attention: patient examination, recording reporting, processing data, coordination disease control programmes, HIS reports by managers. Regular feedback, supportive visits annual reviews are essential monitor make sure that decentralised used primary HDCP coordination. Assessing a client perspective would give additional for identification strengths (leprosy) services.
