Influence of Low-Dose Oral Contraceptives, Alcohol, and Grapefruit on [13C]Aminopyrine Breath Test

摘要: The aminopryine breath test (ABT) measures hepatic reserve in patients with acute and chronic liver disease gives an assesment of the function undergoing major surgery. Aminopyrine is metabolized by mixed cytochrome P-450 system, which can be influenced many foreign compounds drugs. Whether these drugs influence results ABT has seldomly been tested. We studied three groups: Healthy female volunteers, either normally menstruating or taking oral contraceptives, were asked to perform a [13C]ABT during time menses at midcylce. volunteers after consuming 30 g alcohol. 250 ml grapefruit juice. 13C/12C ratio expired air was measured gas isotope mass spectrometry.
