摘要: We present new theoretical and empirical results on the probability distributions of species persistence times in natural ecosystems. Persistence times, defined as timespans occurring between species' colonization local extinction a given geographic region, are empirically estimated from observations presence/absence. A connected sampling problem is presented, generalized solved analytically. Species shown to provide direct connection with key spatial macroecological patterns like species-area endemics-area relationships. Our analysis pertains two different ecosystems taxa: herbaceous plant community estuarine fish database. Despite substantial differences ecological interactions scales, we confirm earlier evidence general properties scaling including predicted effects structure interaction network. The framework tested here allows investigate directly nature extent context ecosystem dynamics. notable coherence temporal patterns, theoretically derived verified, suggested underlie features dynamic evolution
