摘要: This report presents the comparative life cycle assessment (LCA) between warm stone mastic asphalt (SMA) and conventional SMA. Specifically, study evaluated compared environmental economic performances of two mixtures: a SMA binder course mixture with chemical additive control hot mixture. Both these mixtures were utilized as part complete overlay project on Veterans Memorial Expressway (I-355) near Chicago Illinois Tollway system. The results this indicate that provides significant benefits to When mixing temperature was decreased from 325 280 degrees Fahrenheit (168 138 Celsius), overall impact material, production, transportation, placement reduced by 6.4% due use mix additive. More can be expected if is further lowered. It also concluded using slightly increases initial construction cost pavement. However, allows for traffic opened earlier, so user caused delay reduced, total lower than In addition, higher percentage reclaimed pavement (RAP) because less aging. With 10% increase in RAP usage, becomes 3.5% calculating weighted score (environmental, agency, costs). data show better performance Therefore, besides being more environmentally friendly, economically competitive did not include an extended paving season longer hauling distance are difficult quantify. may reduce risk poor compaction during construction, which ensures long-term performance, therefore saves costs related maintenance rehabilitation.
