摘要: This paper reviews the literature on deliberate self-burning (DSB) and compares patterns in various countries. Fifty-five studies of self-harm or suicide by fire published last 20 years were reviewed. They reported 3351 cases DSB, including 2296 deaths. India had highest absolute number cases, fatality rate, contribution to burns admissions. The incidence was from Sri Lanka. Male victims generally predominated Western countries, females Middle East Indian sub-continent. Patients grossly 10 older Europe than Asia. use nature accelerants, possible roles ethnicity, religion/faith imitation are discussed. Three broad groups identified: psychiatric patients (Western Middle-Eastern countries); those committing DSB for personal reasons (India, Lanka, Papua-New Guinea, Zimbabwe); who politically motivated South Korea). Self-mutilators self-immolators seem be fairly distinct people.
