摘要: An observational study was conducted in Cochin estuary to examine the relative impacts of tidal and river runoff forcing upon suspended sediment dynamics at different time scales. Time series measurements salinity concentration (SSC) were spring neap periods wet dry seasons. These data complemented by tides, currents, vertical profiling hydrography turbidity main inlet estuary. The results showed that SSC maximum decreased towards upstream for both intra-tidal variations water column stability suggested prominent stratification occurred as a result torrential rain during tides season. During season, relatively lower intense turbulent mixing ebb. well-mixed (spring) partially stratified (neap) conditions noticed. Suspended fluxes also analyzed using decomposition method identify mechanisms maintenance inlet. dominated an advective component phases season dry-neap period. In contrast, pumping contributing process residual dry-spring transport directed outward irrespective ranges seasons due strong ebb currents with longer duration. findings are significant development protection harbors situated close estuaries efficient implementation integrated coastal management system.
