摘要: The Advanced Recovery and Integrated Extraction System (ARIES) is a pit disassembly conversion demonstration line at Los Alamos National Laboratory's plutonium facility. Pits are the core of nuclear weapon that contains fissile material. With end cold war, United States began program to dispose material contained in surplus weapons. In January 1997, Department Energy's Office Fissile Material Disposition issued Record Decision (ROD) on disposition plutonium. This decision hybrid option for plutonium, immobilization mixed oxide fuel. ARIES cornerstone supplies feed either these pathways. Additionally, information from this being used design Pit Disassembly Conversion Facility. AH technologies were recently developed incorporate waste minimization. include bisection, hydride/dehydride, metal process, packaging, nondestructive assay (NDA). current schedule integrated Demonstration will begin Spring 1998. project involves number DOE sites including Laboratory as lead laboratory, Lawrence Livermore (LLNL), Sandia Laboratories. Moreover, team heavily involved working with Russia their activities.
