The Contemplation Ladder: validation of a measure of readiness to consider smoking cessation.

摘要: Abstract Presents evidence for the validity of Contemplation Ladder, a measure readiness to consider smoking cessation. Analyses data collected from more than 400 smokers at two worksites before and during 10-month intervention indicate that Ladder scores were significantly associated with reported intention quit, number previous quit attempts, perceived co-worker encouragement socioeconomic status. predicted subsequent participation in programs designed educate workers about their habit its contingent risks. The did not predict biochemically validated abstinence 24 hr or more. To assess ability distinguish between groups known priori differ readiness, we administered 36 participants clinic-based cessation program. As predicted, clinic patients scored higher on Ladder. importance distinguishing lowest stages is discussed.
