摘要: This chapter provides basic background information regarding individuals who either self-identify or are identified by people in the larger society as being members of African American ethnocultural group. Although Americans share many things common with one another including similar historical experiences, cultural traits, and health considerations, great diversity exists amonggroupmembers termsof socioeconomic status, educational background, family structure, individual reactions to racism (Boyd-Franklin, 2003; Sue & Sue, 2003). As other groups, differences among group may be just varied between another. Thus, should mindful such considerations when making sweeping generalizations about characteristics attributes. Bearing these mind, terms “in general,’’ “many,’’ “some’’ will used frequently throughout course this presentation describing characteristics, behavioral practices patterns, economic health-related issues Americans. However, it noted that regardless membership, comparable social, economic, political backgrounds hold maintain values, beliefs, lifestyles, which transcend ascribed affiliations (Lassiter, 1998).
