摘要: We seek to offer some reconciliation for the conflicting theoretical arguments and empirical findings regarding impact of women’s participation in boards on firms’ performance.We suggest that this differs relation market- accounting-performance, it is firm-specific, varies by ownership type composition their boards.These find underpinnings agency resource-dependency theories, combined with behavioral discrimination theories articulate women behavior workplace market perception gender equality.The analysis based a dataset 841 publicly-listed firms Malaysia.The results show positive accounting-performance negative market-performance, suggesting directors create economic value, which undervalued market. interpret reference role society business Malaysia, nature corporate governance types prevalent among Malaysian firms.We relationships might be context-specific, hence desired level across countries.We discuss normative implications government authorities considering legislation gender-quota boards, firms.
