摘要: The yield of sugar beet is often reduced by drought stress and it has previously been shown that water uptake, especially from deeper layers the soil profile, may be limited inadequate total root length. Experiments were conducted to assess growth at different depths in response specific watering regimes. Sugar plants grown wooden boxes (2.16 m2 × 1.2 m) a polytunnel two consecutive years. Minirhizotrons allowed regular monitoring five depths. Only when upper had depleted, did roots start proliferating layers. This development system architecture, together with lag between arriving depth actively taking up water, led delay being extracted those During period depth, stomatal conductance reduced, indicating suffering despite there still available. Even though new high availability explored not recover.
