摘要: Abstract Purpose: This multi-institutional Phase III randomized study compared 10 Gy single-fraction radiotherapy (RT) with 20 in five fractions the palliation of thoracic symptoms from lung cancer. Methods and Materials: The primary end point was at 1 month after RT, evaluated by a patient-completed daily diary card. Secondary points included quality life, toxicity, survival. Results: Most (69%) 230 patients had locally advanced disease unsuitable for curative treatment. treatment arms were well balanced respect to known prognostic factors. At no difference found symptom control between two arms, as judged scores. changes scores on Lung Cancer Symptom Scale indicated that fractionated RT (five fractions) group greater improvement related cancer ( p = 0.009), pain 0.0008), ability carry out normal activities 0.037), better global life 0.039). European Organization Research Treatment QLQ-C30 showed receiving 0.04). No significant treatment-related toxicity. Patients who received survived average 2 months longer 0.0305) than one fraction. Conclusion: Although strategies provided similar degree symptoms, survival clinically relevant magnitude.
