摘要: People in remote Aboriginal communities the Northern Territory have greater morbidity and mortality than other Australians, but face considerable barriers when accessing hospital-based specialist services. The Specialist Outreach Service, which began 1997, was a novel policy initiative to improve access by providing regular multidisciplinary visiting services communities. It led two interesting juxtapositions: that of 'state art' alongside under-resourced primary care relatively traditional communities; attempts develop an evidence base for effectiveness outreach, while meeting short-term evaluative requirements policy-makers.
