The sugar industry of the Caribbean community (caricom) : An overview

摘要: The sugar industry in the Caribbean is steeped history dating back to 17th century. It by far largest agricultural enterprise region, generating some 125,000 jobs direct and indirect employment, out of a population 6 million. At its peak 1965, produced 1.35 million tonnes sugar. In 2003, production was down over 710,000 tonnes. This paper describes structure countries (Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Barbados, St. Kitts Nevis Belize) critically reviews factors (e.g. world price sugar) forces international trade negotiations), that have shaped will be shaping foreseeable future.
